Product Description

This huge (2" diameter) and truly rare (mintage 500) gold proof is the 6th in the Provincial Coat of Arms Series!

Sold out at the Mint! During the Middle Ages, a knight who went into battle needed to distinguish friend from foe, and so would paint identifying marks on his shield. Later, these markings began appearing on military surcoats and cloaks worn by royal messengers. This is how the Coat of Arms was born - a design of heraldic symbols created to represent a monarchy, a clan, a territory or nation. Even Canada, a nation formed long after the Middle Ages, has a Coat of Arms - as does every province and territory within its domain.

The Official Royal Coat of Arms of the Canadian Province of New Brunswick in CanadaNew this year - an even lower mintage limit - only 500 worldwide! That's only half of previous $300 gold proofs!

New Brunswick's Coat of Arms
The Coat of Arms for New Brunswick (NB) evolved over the course of more than a century. On May 26, 1868, Queen Victoria first assigned the Provincial Shield featuring a gold lion (symbolizing England) on a crimson background with an ancient war galley below, to represent the province’s shipbuilding and maritime history.

The crest and motto followed in 1966 by Order of the Lieutenant Governor in Council. Spem Reduxit was inspired by the province’s great seal. This Latin phrase means "Hope has been restored," and refers to New Brunswick’s role as a refuge for United Empire Loyalists who fought on the losing side against the American colonies during the Revolutionary War.

Other features were assigned by Royal Warrant of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on September 24, 1984, New Brunswick’s bi-centennial. These augmentations include a crest of an Atlantic salmon with St. Edward’s Crown and a golden royal helmet above the Shield; a grassy mound covered with fiddleheads and purple violets (the province’s floral emblem); and two white tailed deer. Each deer is wearing a wampum collar and is presented with a small shield. The Union Badge represents English, Scottish and Irish settlers while the Royal Arms of France on the right acknowledges French settlement.

The 2010 New Brunswick $300 Gold Proof is the sixth in the Provincial Coat of Arms gold proof series.

Investment Note
When you see one of these oversize gold monsters, you can't help but desire it - its size is jaw dropping! It is positively huge (2 inches in diameter) and contains over one and one-eighth ounces of pure gold, ingeniously and attractively alloyed with pure silver. What's more, it has a very high face value of $300. New this year is an even lower, reduced mintage limit of only 500 - making it doubly rare! This is the lowest mintage limit ever for a $300 gold proof! Most $300 gold proofs (with higher mintage limits) have sold out very quickly, so we recommend not delaying if you want this to be yours! Stunning in its artistry, size and rarity, it's a true keeper!
