Product Description

This SPECIAL EDITION mint set includes 3 circulating commemoratives and a tiny mintage limit!

Sold out at the Mint! It's been a few years since the Royal Canadian Mint has brought us a Special Edition Mint Set, so we're thrilled to be able to offer this bonus collection to you. Even more thrilling is the absolutely tiny mintage limit - only 15,000! This is less than a third of the limit for the standard edition 2010 Mint Set, and a small fraction of the one million or so mint sets the U.S. Mint produces annually!

Mintage Limit - 15,000 - As expected, this sold out quickly! Also please note that this set has more coins and a higher face value than the standard mint set, due to the inclusion of the three circulating commemoratives!

Special Edition Mint Set Coins The 2010 Special Edition Proof-Like Uncirculated Mint Set includes at least one example of each and every one of the circulation coins of Canada, each of which features a design of national importance, including:

    One Cent Maple Leaf Penny
    Five Cent Beaver Nickel
    Ten Cent Bluenose Schooner Dime
Fifty Cent Coat of Arms Half Dollar
    Two Dollar Polar Bear "Toonie"

Three limited mintage circulating commemoratives are also included! These are the only three circulating commems struck by Canada for 2010, and as such comprise a complete collection of these coins. They are:

    Twenty-Five Cent Color Poppy Quarter
Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Team Centennial $1 "Loonie"
Royal Canadian Navy Centennial $1 "Loonie"

All are specially-struck and hand-picked for these high-quality sets. Each coin has a proof-like finish and includes the RCM mint mark on the Queen side of each coin! Canadian half dollars are no longer issued to banks for general circulation, so mint sets are now the only way to get these coins individually.

Two standard circulation coins are not included in this set (but are available in the standard edition 2010 Mint Set):

    Twenty-Five Cent Caribou Quarter
    One Dollar Common Loon "Loonie"

Mintage Limit - 15,000 - As expected, this sold out quickly! Also please note that this set has more coins and a higher face value than the standard mint set, due to the inclusion of the three circulating commemoratives!

Investment Note
We generally don't speak of a mint set costing less than $50 as an investment. However, the Royal Canadian Mint has added an interesting wrinkle this year - this special edition mint set, with three circulating commemorative coins and a tiny mintage limit. This 8-Coin Mint Set has a mintage limit of only 15,000 (and all certificates are individually numbered), meaning that this set will be very hard to find in the future. Consider that on an annual basis, the U.S. Mint produces over 4 million (that's 4,000,000 !) uncirculated and proof sets combined, and you can see that this is a relatively minuscule mintage limit for such an affordable set replete with iconic coins.

The obverse of each coin features the familiar designs found on the regular circulation coins of Canada as described and pictured above. The circulation Poppy Quarter with Color, the Saskatchewan Roughriders $1, and the Royal Canadian Navy Centennial $1 are also included.

The reverse of each coin features Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of England, in profile facing right. This portrait, the fourth effigy of the queen to appear on Canadian coinage, was executed by the artist Susanna Blunt. The legend ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA ("Elizabeth II, Queen by the Grace of God") and mint mark also appear.

The coins are sealed inside a handsome, full color blister pack, protected inside a heavy stock, full-color envelope. An individually numbered certificate with full specifications is included.
