Product Description

The classic, single maple leaf design, a rare double date, and a special millennium fireworks privy mark make this a rare silver beauty!

Sold out at the Mint! What could be more beautiful than a single, perfect maple leaf? Hold it in your hand and gaze at this marvel of nature - so deceptively simple, yet so compelling. Along with the beaver and the Mountie, the maple leaf is considered one of the three iconic emblems of Canada - so definitive, in fact, that in 1965 the national flag was changed to the red and white maple leaf flag we know today.

SingleGreenMapleLeaf.jpg Now you can capture this very same beauty on one of the best-known and most widely collected precious metal coins in the world, the Silver Maple Leaf. First minted in 1988, Canada's own SML is the purest silver coin ever struck, and has the highest face value, a full five dollars, as well!

Millennium Privy Mark
This unusual Silver Maple Leaf is dated 1999 on the left and 2000 on the right, and is marked with a special fireworks privy in celebration of the new millenium! Note that 1999 and 2000 SMLs were issued as well, so this is a special millenium edition.

For type collectors, please note that the following portraits of Queen Elizabeth II have appeared on Silver Maple Leaf coins:

1988-1989  2nd effigy by Arnold Machin
  1990-2003  3rd effigy by Dora de Pédery-Hunt
2004-pres.  4th effigy by Susanna Blunt

The Specimen Finish
This coin features the uniquely-Canadian "specimen" finish, a three-fold combination of different finishes. The design (raised area or relief) includes both brilliant and mirrored surfaces, while the fields (background) are subtly striated, resulting in a contrasting, matte appearance. No other mint in the world employs the specimen finish.

A highly-detailed depiction of a single maple leaf, with a special privy mark of fireworks bursting overhead. The legends FINE SILVER 1 OZ and 9999 guarantee the weight and purity.

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of England, in profile facing right. This portrait, the third effigy of the queen to appear on Canadian coinage, was executed by the artist Dora de Pédery-Hunt. Shows dual dates, with 1999 to the left of the denomination, and 2000 to the right of it. At the top, the legend ELIZABETH II also appears.
