2012 Wedding Gift Set CoinsThe Wedding Gift Set
The Wedding Gift Set includes six different examples of the circulating denominations of Canada, each of which features a design of national importance, including:

    One Cent Maple Leaf Penny
    Five Cent Beaver Nickel
    Ten Cent Bluenose Schooner Dime
    Twenty-Five Cent Wedding Rings Quarter
    One Dollar Common Loon "Loonie"
Two Dollar Bi-Metallic Polar Bear "Toonie"

All are specially-struck and hand-picked for these high-quality sets. Each coin has a proof-like finish and includes the brand-new mint mark on the queen side! However, instead of a standard caribou quarter, the Wedding Gift Set includes a quarter found only in this set (and not released into circulation). This quarter features two entwined wedding rings with a love heart above.

Highly Significant Circulating Coin Designs

Polar Bear
Canada’s bi-metallic two-dollar coin, launched in 1996, features a polar bear, the world’s largest terrestrial carnivore, which can weigh over 1400 pounds (650 kilograms). It lives near the cold seas and frozen ice of Canada’s far-north.

Common Loon
Launched in 1987, the reverse of the one-dollar coin, represents a common loon swimming against the rugged backdrop of the Canadian Shield. The loon’s haunting calls are one the quintessential sound of the Canadian wilderness in summer.

Bluenose Schooner
In the 1921, Atlantic Canadians built one of the finest racing and fishing vessels in Canadian history, the Bluenose. Known for its speed, and almost unbeatable in a race, this ship first appeared on the ten-cent piece in 1937.

Beaver
The beaver is Canada’s national animal. Highly sought after for its rich fur in the 17th and 18th centuries, it was the mainstay of the colonial economy for centuries. Today, the beaver is revered as a symbol of hard work and perseverance.

Maple Leaf
Canada’s most-recognized national emblem, the Maple Leaf not only has pride of place on the Canadian flag, but appeared, in one form or another, on circulation coins in Canada long before Confederation in 1867.

Obverse
The obverse of each coin features the familiar designs found on the regular circulation coins of Canada as described and pictured above. The quarter whimsically depicts two entwined wedding rings with a love heart above.

Reverse
The reverse of each coin features Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of England, in profile facing right. This portrait, the fourth effigy of the queen to appear on Canadian coinage, was executed by the artist Susanna Blunt. The legend ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA ("Elizabeth II, Queen by the Grace of God") and mint mark also appear.
