Product Description

The world’s smallest, purest gold proof features a detailed portrait of a growling grizzly bear (by wildlife artist Emily Damstra), intricately rendered in pure gold on this affordable, meticulously engraved proof beauty!

Sold out at the Mint!Yes, it's a gold quarter! In an effort to make proof gold coins affordable for everyone, the Royal Canadian Mint has just announced the fourth release in its Big Mammals on Smallest Gold Coins Series, a majestic adult grizzly bear! Aware that rising gold prices have made purchases of this most-desirable of precious metals prohibitive for many who could previously easily afford it, the Mint has responded with this reasonably priced investment piece, with a handsome animal motif - minted in gold that's 99.99% pure! (Would you believe, about a decade ago one could get an ounce of gold for less than $275!) The first two in the Big Mammals Series (Caribou Gold Proof and Mountain Lion Cougar Gold Proof) sold out handily. With it's limited mintage of only 10,000, don't let this affordable, smallest gold gem escape - get it while you can!

A great North American Grizzly Bear, bellowing fearsomely! The coin design by wildlife artist Emily Damstra (rendered in exceptional detail despite the coin’s small size) depicts a splendid side profile of a majestic adult grizzly bear. Despite the coin’s diminutive size, the bear’s facial features are rendered in magnificent detail. Here, the concave facial profile is noticeable as it extends from between the eyes down to the nose tip. The grizzly’s short, rounded ears rise up from its shaggy fur, which is brought to life thanks to finely detailed engraving.

The Fearsome Grizzly
It's a true thrill to wildlife lovers when they catch a glimpse of the mythic grizzly in the wild! The fearsome grizzly bear is probably the most dangerous land mammal in North America. These massive and powerful animals can weigh up to 1,500 pounds and stand up to 8 feet tall on their hind legs, yet are capable of running at speeds up to 35 miles per hour! Perhaps best known as salmon hunters during the spawning season, grizzlies are opportunistic omnivores, eating almost anything in season, from fruits, nuts, honey and berries, to insects, grubs and small mammals, to much larger prey. As such they can be very dangerous to humans, especially when startled or when defending their young. One bite from a grizzly bear can crush a person's skull, so powerful are its jaws. Although they were held in high esteem for eons by Native Americans because of their spirits, grizzlies have been eradicated throughout most their range in North America, partly by hunters for trophies, and partly because of simple fear.

Investment Note
The gold is pure - four 9s pure (.9999), in fact. And it's affordable. Previously, the smallest gold coin minted by the Royal Canadian Mint was the 1/25 ounce pure gold proof, and these always sell well. But the mintage limit for this new, half gram size of gold coin is only 10,000 - certain to sell out, just like the previous entries in the Big Mammals on Smallest Gold Coins Series: the Caribou Gold Proof and Mountain Lion Cougar Gold Proof. Don't miss the boat - get this affordable, wildlife gold proof while the gettin's good!
