Product Description

A masterwork of wildlife fine art by artist Michelle Grant, an adorable woodchuck kit nibbles on wildflowers under the watchful eye of mother groundhog, intricately rendered in pure silver on this meticulously engraved, low mintage proof full color beauty!

Eleventh in the enchanting and extremely popular Royal Canadian Mint's Baby Animals Program!  This heartwarming scene by Canadian wildlife artist Michelle Grant features color over the engraved portrait of a young woodchuck in its native environment. Barely two months old, the young is weaned from its mother’s milk and has ventured out of its underground burrow to sample nearby grasses and wildflowers. A detailed engraving depicts the protective mother keeping a watchful eye on her young from the opening of the burrow, which is surrounded by grass and dirt at the foot of a large boulder. This pure silver coin showcases a very difficult animal to find in numismatics, not often depicted on a coin, in a continuing celebration of family bonds in the Canadian wilderness in a scene rendered in superb detail by extraordinarily detailed engraving and stunning full color.

Helpful Hint - Coins depicting the woodchuck or groundhog (which some people fancifully call a whistlepig) are few and far between. Keep your numismatic zoo up-to-date - add one to your collection today!

An Original Work of Art
This heartwarming scene by Canadian wildlife artist Michelle Grant features color over the engraved portrait of a young woodchuck in its native environment. Barely two months old, the young is weaned from its mother’s milk and has ventured out of its underground burrow to sample nearby grasses and wildflowers. The application of selective color over engraving captures the young woodchuck’s likeness, particularly the texture and dark hues of its fur. Placing its weight on its hind feet, the kit, cub, pup or chuckling sits upright and uses its clawed forepaws to bring a flower to its mouth for a tentative nibble! The use of color also draws the eye to the surrounding vegetation, where alfalfa and yellow clover offer up a veritable feast for this youngster. To the left, detailed engraving depicts a protective mother keeping a watchful eye on her young from the opening of the burrow, which is surrounded by grass and dirt at the foot of a large boulder.
