A Stunning, Original Work of Art!
Based on a photograph captured by Canadian photographer Adam Hill, the obverse takes us to the remote Northwest Territories, where the beauty of the untamed wilderness takes center stage. The application of vibrant color over engraved relief allows for a life-like recreation of the original photograph, which captures an ethereal setting in the land of the midnight sun. Two float planes rest on the calm surface of the Mackenzie River, not far from the lights of Fort Simpson, N.W.T., seen in the distance. The northern sky steals the show in the background, where the aurora borealis lights up the night with green and blue hues dancing in the sky above. The obverse also features the engraved word “CANADA” and the dates “1867-2017” to commemorate Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation.
