Canada 2017 Celebration of Love - Two Butterflies $10 Pure Silver Proof with Genuine Heart-Shaped Swarovski Crystal Color outer box frontAn Original Work of Art!
Canadian artist Joel Kimmel has created a touching celebration of love through the elegant combination of detailed engraving, multiple finishes, vibrant color and a dazzling Swarovski crystal. Two Monarch butterflies represent two souls who have found one another, with each one enhanced by the gorgeous hues on their distinctive orange and black wings. The butterflies gaze at each other from atop a 6-millimeter, heart-shaped Swarovski crystal. The crystal itself is symbolic of the nature of love - not just for its shape but also for its sparkling light effect, which seems to brighten everything that surrounds these two souls in love. Both the crystal and the butterflies rise up from a large engraved coneflower, and are surrounded by butterfly bushes, coneflower blooms, and other butterflies in the background (including a tiger swallowtail butterfly in the distance to the right).

Just as love has that rare ability to make everything seem brighter, the heart-shaped Swarovski crystal infuses the gorgeous design with a light and a sparkle that is amplified by the coin’s proof finish.

The Captivating Monarch Butterfly!
A brilliantly colored male Monarch Butterfly! The captivating Monarch (Danaus plexippus) is arguably the most recognized butterfly in North America. Its bright orange wings with thick, dark veins and black borders spotted in white produce a bold design one isn't likely to forget. Such visibility should make the Monarch an easy target for predators, but that is hardly the case. Monarch caterpillars feed exclusively on milkweeds and in doing so accumulate the plant’s emetic poisons that birds abhor - a defensive measure so effective that the edible Viceroy butterfly (Limenitis archippus) has evolved to mimic the Monarch’s appearance.

Imitation may be the best form of flattery, but the Monarch’s greatest accomplishment by far is its migration. It boasts the longest range of any insect in the world! Every year millions of Monarchs flutter their way from southern Canada to central Mexico 3,000 miles away to escape winter’s cold - yet another strategy that preserves it for us to appreciate! The Monarch's vibrant hues are truly a marvel, a display of color that could only be captured in by the Royal Canadian Mint's proprietary colorization technology. Add this pair of beautiful Monarch butterflies to your collection today!

Swarovski Crystal
SWAROVSKI CRYSTALSSwarovski is the luxury brand name for the range of precision-cut crystal glass products produced by the privately-owned company Swarovski AG of Feldmeilen, Austria (near Zürich, Switzerland). Swarovski crystal was born when a Bohemian, Daniel Swarovski, invented an automatic cutting machine in 1892. In 1895 the Swarovski company was founded when he established a crystal cutting factory in Wattens (near Innsbruck, Tyrol, Austria). Here he could take advantage of local hydroelectricity for the energy-intensive grinding processes he had patented.

Swarovski crystal contains approximately 32% lead to maximize refraction. The Swarovski Crystal firm produces a wide range range of products, but is world-renowned for the incredible quality and brilliance of its crystal jewelry.

In order to create a crystal that allows light to refract in a rainbow spectrum, Swarovski coats some of its crystals with special metallic chemical coatings. For example, Aurora Borealis, or "AB", is one of the most popular coatings, and gives the surface a rainbow oil slick appearance. Recent developments include the 2004 release of a new, patented cut, Xilion, designed to optimize the brilliance of roses (crystal components with flat backs) and chatons (diamond-cut crystals).
