Product Description

This vividly colored, ultra affordable pure silver proof depicts a family engaging in that quintessentially northern pastime of collecting sap to boil it down at the Sugar Shack to make that sweetest of treats, pure maple syrup!

For young and old, the sugar shack experience is the earliest rite of spring in New England as well as eastern and central Canada, and is embedded in our two nations' cultural fabrics. Whether it’s the sweet scent of the boiling sap or the thrill of a horse-pulled sleigh ride, maple syrup season is a true celebration of folklore and tradition in an old-time ambiance - as beautifully captured on this colorful, pure silver proof!

A Vibrant, Charming Original Work of Art!
The design by Canadian artist Tony Bianco captures the wonder of a quintessentially New England and Canadian tradition. The engraved scene is set in early spring, when the temperatures slowly climb during the day but fall again after sunset. The application of vibrant color on the coin adds several focal points along the leafless landscape, which is otherwise dominated by silver and white. A sleigh pulled by a team of horses adds a timeless quality to the setting, as does the bright red sugarhouse nestled in the maple grove, where the sap is boiled to produce pure maple syrup. In the foreground, the eye is naturally drawn towards the bright winter clothing of a young child, who wondrously peers into a bucket and curiously studies the collected sap during their visit to the sugar shack.

A sugar shack (French: cabane à sucre), also known as sap house, sugar house, sugar shanty or sugar cabin is a semi-commercial establishment, primarily found in Eastern Canada and northern New England. Like the name implies, sugar shacks are small cabins or groups of cabins where sap collected from sugar maple trees is boiled into maple syrup. Often found on the same territory is the sugar bush, which is intended for cultivation and production of maple syrup by way of craftsmanship (as opposed to global mass production factories built for that purpose in the 20th century).
