Canada 2017 Night Skiing Glow-in-the-Dark $15 SilverCelebrating the Great Outdoors - at Sunset!
The design by Canadian artist Joel Kimmel features life-like elements in this depiction of a tranquil lake setting at dusk. In this quintessentially Canadian scene, vibrant full color over engraved elements captures the rich light cast by a spectacular sunset. To the left, a father and son have donned their life jackets for an evening paddle on the smooth waters. With paddles still dipped in the water, they pause to admire the sun setting over the tree-lined shore. Their near-identical poses hint at the passing of knowledge from one generation to another, as though canoeing is a proud family tradition. The sunset is beautifully reflected in the water’s surface, but when viewed in the dark, the design’s use of
photo-luminescent (glow-in-the-dark) technology continues the day’s transition to night. The setting sun has become a dim light over a landscape increasingly filled with shadows. Its reflection on the water casts a soft glow on the canoe and the paddlers, and softly illuminates the green lily pads.

There are no legends on the obverse, to allow the complete majesty of the vignette to shine in its full glory.

Glow in the Dark Photoluminescent Technology
Photo-luminescent technology transports the viewer into the scene. The full effect of the coin is best viewed in the dark after placing it directly under a light source for at least 60 seconds. Natural daylight and halogen light work best, followed by incandescent bulbs. Fluorescent light may take the longest to charge the coin.

Technology Note - Color
The Royal Canadian Mint leads the world with its proprietary colorization technology, in which the color is actually sealed on the coin. The intricate detail, smooth gradients, and extreme precision of the technology create a stunning look on each coin.
