Product Description

The classic, single maple leaf design, a national symbol of Canada, adorns this much-desired, pure silver beauty! The full proof finish, Denver ANA World's Fair of Money privy mark, the classic Maple Leaf Design (paired with the state flower of Colorado, the Rocky Mountain Columbine), and extremely limited mintage make this SML an instant classic. Buy and hold, indeed!

What could be more beautiful than a single, perfect maple leaf? Hold it in your hand and gaze at this marvel of nature - so deceptively simple, yet so compelling. Along with the Beaver and the Mountie, the Maple Leaf is considered one of the three iconic emblems of Canada - so definitive, in fact, that in 1965 the National Flag of Canada was changed to the red and white maple leaf flag we know today.

ANA Privy Mark AND the State Flower of Colorado, the Columbine
Two stately emblems come together in one exclusive design! To mark the Royal Canadian Mint’s attendance at the 2017 ANA World’s Fair of Money, this special issue pays tribute to the host city of Denver by pairing Colorado’s state flower, the Rocky Mountain Columbine, with Canada’s most recognized emblem, the Maple Leaf, and joining them in a spirit of celebration.

Like a botanical illustration struck in 99.99% pure silver, the design by Canadian artist Jesse Koreck features an outstanding amount of detail that captures the natural beauty of two stately floral emblems. On the left, the Rocky Mountain Columbine (Aquilegia caerulea) is depicted in full bloom. This official flower of the state of Colorado is known for large-sized, two-tone flowers that face upwards. Its slightly curved stem is loosely encircled by the petiole of a sugar maple leaf (Acer saccharum), whose deeply veined lobes and serrated edges are accentuated by the frosted finish against a brilliant background. Beneath the columbine, the micro-engraved privy mark stands as a celebration of the 2017 ANA World’s Fair of Money in Denver, as represented by the American Numismatic Association’s official logo and the engraved word DENVER. The legends FINE SILVER 1 OZ and 9999 guarantee the weight and purity.

Now you can capture this very same beauty on one of the best-known and most widely collected precious metal coins in the world, the Silver Maple Leaf. First minted in 1988, Canada's own SML is the purest silver coin ever struck, and has the highest face value, a full five dollars, as well!

The Canada Silver Maple Leaf is the most collected of all Canadian coins! For type collectors, please note that the following portraits of Queen Elizabeth II have appeared on Silver Maple Leaf coins:

1988-1989  2nd effigy by Arnold Machin
  1990-2003  3rd effigy by Dora de Pédery-Hunt
2004-pres.  4th effigy by Susanna Blunt
