Product Description

The new, technologically advanced series "In The Eyes Of..." is a hit! The Royal Canadian Mint combines two technologies - Enamel Effect and Photoluminescent Glow in the Dark - to portray the Great Horned Owl on this incomparable, low mintage and affordable pure silver proof!

The new series "In The Eyes Of..." represents a first for the Royal Canadian Mint - the very first combination of the Mint's revolutionary Enamel Effect Technology with its undeniably desirable Photoluminescent Glow in the Dark technology - to incredible effect. And the engraving is outstanding, too - look at that minute detail! Given its limited mintage, magnificent craftsmanship and elevated artistic design, this series will be highly sought after - so don’t delay, order today!

At home in Canada’s wooded areas, the great horned owl is equipped with enhanced night-time vision that helps make it a formidable nocturnal hunter. Its remarkable eyes are the focus of this first coin in a new series in which an innovative enamel effect provides life-like color, while glow-in-the-dark allows the animal eyes to peer out from the dark.

A Stunning Artistic Design, Accented by First-Ever Technology!
The indomitable spirit of the great horned owl (Bubo virginianus) is evident in this design by Canadian artist Curtis Atwater. The close-up portrait of its broad face features complex engraving that adds textural details throughout, especially in the rendering of its plumage. Special emphasis is placed on the owl’s eyes, where an enamel effect mimics the glossy look of a traditional paint application, but with far more color variances that give the amber-colored irises a more life-like appearance. They are further enhanced by glow-in-the-dark technology that adds a luminous intensity to the piercing gaze, which offers the only visible proof of the owl’s presence in the dark.

Technology Note - Enamel
The vibrant hues of the animal's eyes are a result of the Royal Canadian Mint’s patented enamel technology. This proprietary technique applies deep, rich, semi-opaque colors to the coin, while the glaze over these hues enhances the effect of real enamel.

Glow in the Dark Photoluminescent Technology
Photo-luminescent technology transports the viewer into the scene. The full effect of the coin is best viewed in the dark after placing it directly under a light source for at least 60 seconds. Natural daylight and halogen light work best, followed by incandescent bulbs. Fluorescent light may take the longest to charge the coin.

The Royal Canadian Mint refines the purest silver in the world. This three-quarter troy ounce silver coin is 99.99% pure!
