Product Description

Get the 3rd release in this ongoing, popular Native American series, Thirteen Teachings from Grandmother Moon! The Sugar Moon for March showcases an Indian woman collecting maple sap on this beautiful, affordable full color pure silver proof coin!

Grandmother Moon is always ready to share her loving wisdom. This captivating Native American coin series brings you her life teachings with thirteen original woodland Indian designs. Canada’s indigenous peoples view every aspect of nature as a living relation that plays an active role in their lives. Although variations do exist due to geography and climate, Grandmother Moon is a central figure in their mythos, her kind and gentle ways always a common thread.

For the Anishnabe people, the woodland cultures that extend from the eastern seaboard to the Great Lakes, and the headwaters of the Mackenzie River, Grandmother Moon is ever-present, making 13 appearances throughout the year as she watches over Mother Earth’s children and lights up their paths. Every full moon brings a new teaching that is illustrated in each coin design to foster understanding and respect for all of Earth’s creatures - each a stunning work of art with a unique insight into Native American life!

A Native American Inuit Drum Dance PerformerArtwork by a Native American Artist!
Native American Algonquin artist Frank Polson has created a captivating image of a full moon filling the sky as it sits low on the horizon behind a leafless tree. To the left, a woman sits at the foot of a maple tree while maple sap drips from a wooden spout into a basket below. Two more birchbark baskets are at the ready. The use of bold lines, and the insertion of vivid color within black areas as if to reveal what lies within, is a signature design element in woodland art.

Sugar Moon brings a time of healing as we drink the maple’s sap after a long winter. More importantly, it’s about the spiritual health of our lives. Do we honor and respect all our relations - the people, rocks, stars and trees? Do our daily actions contribute to their well-being? This coin’s beautiful woodland design is a powerful reminder how all creation nurtures and sustains us, and our responsibility towards all life according to Anishinaabe tradition.
