Product Description

Canada. Newfoundland. Great Britain. France. Four staunch allies, one last push.  Commemorate the finals days of World War I on this one troy ounce pure silver military proof, beautifully enhanced with 24-karat gold!

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of First World War, Talisman Coins is proud to bring you the military-themed World War I Allied Forces Series! Each one troy ounce, pure silver proof coin remembers a specific action fought by one of the Allies (Canada, Newfoundland, France and Great Britain)! Each coin features 24-karat gold plating and the wartime monarch, King George V, too!

In 1918, the Allies launched the offensive that led to an armistice which ultimately brought an end to the war. Even in the last days of the First World War, Allied forces would find strength in unity. The First World War: Allies series reflects on the collaborative efforts of a republic, an empire and two of her dominions - four of the many allies bound by duty and heroism. Each coin features a highly detailed engraved vignette that shows a different side of the war, paired with a gold-plated insignia that is the embodiment of each participant’s sacrifices and courage in a combat that forever changed the world and led to the even larger global conflagration known as World War II.

Canada leads the charge on the first coin, where the engraved scene shines the spotlight on the often-overlooked role of cavalry in a war that was increasingly defined by technology and modern machinery.

The Allies: Newfoundland

An independent dominion, Newfoundland made a tremendous contribution to the Allied war effort: from a population of 242,000, roughly 12,000 Newfoundlanders enrolled for service during the First World War. They fought on land, in the air and at sea; they fought in the trenches of Gallipoli, and those of the Western Front. In victory and in hardship, the Royal Newfoundland Regiment pressed on with uncommon valor, courageously going over the top once more at the Ypres front in September 1918 and pushing into enemy territory, before joining the occupation force in Germany.

The Design
First World War Battlefront Reverse - King George V Gold-PlatedDesigned by Canadian artist Pandora Young, this coin places you at the heart of the action during the First World War, in the muddy trenches that defined the war on the Western Front. Multiple finishes give the engraved design a sense of depth as a crowd of soldiers of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment rush to the ladders and go over the top. Not one soldier looks back—all eyes are focused on the climb and what lays ahead; it is a testament to the heroic fighting spirit of Newfoundlanders who, time after time, mustered their courage and placed themselves in harm’s way in the name of the Allied cause. Selective gold plating highlights the regimental insignia of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, which features a woodland caribou defiantly facing the enemy. The selectively gold-plated reverse features the effigy of King George V by Sir E. B. MacKennal.
