An Original Work of Art

The design by Jori van der Linde features a side-profile view of a grizzly bear at the edge of a salmon-laden river, all portrayed in the style of mosaic art. Just like real mosaic tile art, the larger image is formed by different-sized “segments” that are defined by engraved lines and clad in luminous colors — save for the silver proof shine of the rocks that have been “polished” by the fast-moving water. Mosaic Color technology mimics the appearance of light filtering through each vibrantly hued piece as the eye moves from the water’s glassy tones to the more vibrant colors of the spawning salmon, and the opaque colors of the grizzly bear’s fur.

The Fearsome Grizzly Bear
Grizzly Bear It's a true thrill to wildlife lovers when they catch a glimpse of the mythic grizzly in the wild! The fearsome grizzly bear is probably the most dangerous land mammal in North America. These massive and powerful animals can weigh up to 1,500 pounds and stand up to 8 feet tall on their hind legs, yet are capable of running at speeds up to 35 miles per hour! Perhaps best known as salmon hunters during the spawning season, grizzlies are opportunistic omnivores, eating almost anything in season, from fruits, nuts, honey and berries, to insects, grubs and small mammals, to much larger prey. As such they can be very dangerous to humans, especially when startled or when defending their young. One bite from a grizzly bear can crush a person's skull, so powerful are its jaws. Although they were held in high esteem for eons by Native Americans because of their spirits, grizzlies have been eradicated throughout most their range in North America, partly by hunters for trophies, and partly because of simple fear.
