Old-time lumberjacks begin to chop down a huge tree with saw and axe - the lumbering timber trade.“Lumbering” was a welcome supplement to the lean winter months that farming communities had to face. Armed with brawn, saw and axe, leagues of lumberjacks disappeared into the forests for the entire season. Trees were easier to fell when the sap was not running. And snow greatly eased the difficult task of moving logs to the river.

Later, when the ice thawed, the lumbermen's attention turned to the downriver “drive.” They released winter’s bounty into the water and jumped from log to log as they guided their quarry with long hooks. The sawmill was days or weeks away and they traveled by raft, a floating community that could span hundreds of yards across.

It was dangerous work, but an adventurous life that has been romanticized by subsequent generations. Later, responsible timbering operations have resulted in the sustainable logging industry, securing the future of this vital trade. And this perfectly engraved and crafted 22-karat gold proof recaptures the early days of timber trade - an industry that helped build a nation and continues to enrich the Canadian experience into the 21st century.

Investment Note
This year the mintage limit of the $200 gold coin remains low again this year, previously cut from 9,000 to only 4,500! This is a very small mintage indeed for the second entry in this heavily demanded series, so we recommend not waiting on this one. The $200 Gold Proof Historical Commerce & Trades Program has proven to be exceedingly popular, with most of the earlier issues currently unavailable. Consider too the dramatic scene and add this gold gem to your portfolio today!
