Product Description

Commemorate the D-Day Normandy Landings of World War II with this special, low-mintage Double Privy Mark Silver Maple Leaf!

Sold out at the Mint!D-Day, the Sixth of June, 1944. Troops from Canada, Great Britain, and the United States stormed the beaches of Normandy in the long-awaited assault against Hitler's Fortress Europa. The sacrifice was great, with casualties numbering around 10,000 on the first day alone. But D-Day represented the beginning of the end for the Nazi regime, and with its demise the return of peace to Europe.

Normany LandingThe Invasion Begins
The Normandy invasion was the largest one-day amphibious attack ever, involving the coordinated assault of over 130,000 Allied troops and nearly 200,000 navy and support personnel! The invasion plans required delicate alignments of moonlight, tides and weather, and poor weather conditions in the days leading up to June 6 nearly scuttled the plans. A brief improvement for the date allowed the invasion to proceed, and even provided some false sense of security amongst the German generals, who believed the invasion unlikely due to the prevailing weather patterns.

Normandy AssaultInvestment Note
This special Silver Maple Leaf has many features that make it an ideal addition to any SML collection. First, it has a low mintage of only 12,000, - less than many other privy marked silver maples. Also, it has a highly unusual Double Privy Mark - to the left of the leaf is an infantryman, and to the right is the inscription commemorating D-Day. These coins are long sold out at the mint and scarce in the market today.
