Sold out at the Mint!The legendary schooner Bluenose has graced the ten cent coin since 1937. In 1920 the Halifax Herald newspaper established the International Fisherman's Trophy racing series for bona fide working ships. The Bluenose was built and launched in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia in 1921 to compete for the trophy. It won and remained unbeaten for 18 years! The design honoring this winning schooner was created by Canadian artist Emanuel Hahn. The coin itself was made of nickel from 1968 to 2001, when it was changed to nickel-plated steel.

The world-famous schooner Bluenose under full sail. The ten cent design was first used on the Canadian dime in 1937. The denomination and date of issue also appear.

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of England, in profile facing right. This portrait, the fourth effigy of the queen to appear on Canadian coinage, was executed by the artist Susanna Blunt. The legend ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA ("Elizabeth II, Queen by the Grace of God") also appears.


The first day of minting coin is handsomely displayed in an large (8 inches by 5 inches) presentation folder with full-color illustrations and bilingual text.
