Product Description

A once-in-a-lifetime event, marked by a once-in-a-lifetime coin!

Sold out at the Mint! On May 1, 2004, Poland joined the European Union, and the entire republic celebrated! Long years of labor had gone into this momentous event, first to shake off the shackles of Communism, then to stabilize the economy, and finally to create the prosperity required by the Union. Having succeeded at each task in turn, at last, Poland achieved its goal with its accession the E.U.!

It is fitting that so great an event be commemorated by such a stunning and unique coin! This was the first coin in Polish history to feature color on both sides!

A four-color portrait of the flags of Poland (white and red) and the European Union (blue and yellow), joined together.  The legend in Polish translates as, “Poland’s Accession to the European Union”.

Thirteen yellow stars on a blue background circle the crowned white eagle, the national emblem of Poland, in the center. The thirteen yellow stars represent the original thirteen nations of the E.U. The year of issue (2004), the denomination (10 Zl) and “Republic of Poland” in Polish also appear.

The coin is encapsulated and presented in a full-color, heavy card folder. The folder tells the story of Poland’s accession to the European Union in English and Polish, and is housed in a full-color outer sleeve. A certificate of authenticity is included.
