Death from above! United States Army soldiers in action during the Vietnam War, including the ubiquitous Bell Huey UH-1 Iroquois helicopter, the workhorse of the army!Platoon. Hamburger Hill. We Were Soldiers. Full Metal Jacket. The Deer Hunter. What do all these famous Vietnam War films have in common? Death from above, courtesy of the helicopter, the defining weapon and transport of Vietnam! In one of the most famous scenes in movie history, in Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now, the 1/9 Air Cavalry ride in on Hueys to attack a Viet Cong village, set to the famous strains of Richard Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries. Throughout Vietnam, the air cavalry and special forces used the helicopter to devastating effect! Coins commemorating the Vietnam War are few and far between, as are coins depicting helicopters. Combine those two themes in one dynamic, moving vignette and you've got a sure winner!

Bell Huey UH-1 Iroquois Helicopter - Jack of All Trades
The Bell UH-1 Iroquois is a military helicopter powered by a single, turboshaft engine, with a two-bladed main rotor and tail rotor. The helicopter was developed by Bell Helicopter to meet the United States Army's requirement for a medical evacuation and utility helicopter in 1952, and first flew in October of 1956. Ordered into production in March 1960, the UH-1 was the first turbine-powered helicopter to enter production for the United States military. It has proved to be extraordinarily successful; more than 16,000 have been produced worldwide.

Death from above! United States Army soldiers in action during the Vietnam War, including the ubiquitous Bell Huey UH-1 Iroquois helicopter, the workhorse of the army! The UH-1 first saw combat service with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. The original designation of HU-1 led to the helicopter's nickname of "Huey". In September 1962, the designation was changed to UH-1, but Huey remained in common use. Approximately 7,000 UH-1 aircraft saw service in Vietnam, in a variety of roles, including medical evac, special forces insertion and removal, and as a helicopter gunship.

Niue
Niue is a small island nation in the South Pacific. Although it is completely self-governing and independent, it remains in free association with New Zealand, a member of the British Commonwealth of Nations, hence the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its coinage. The country is located about 1,450 miles northeast of New Zealand. It is closest to Samoa, Tonga, and the Cook Islands. It is one of the largest coral islands in the world, with a total area of 260 square kilometers. Niueans are predominantly Polynesian; most are bilingual, speaking both Niuean and English.
